Student Competition

 

Outstanding Papers

  •         There are 8 outstanding papers selected by the committee. Authors will be awarded in the Closing Ceremony during 15:40-16:20 on Sunday, March 18.

     

    Finalist

  •         The 15 qualified participants will make oral presentation for their work in three parallel sessions (five presentations each) during 13:00-14:40 on Saturday, March 17. Details are available here.

     

    Purpose

  •         This competition aims to foster research independence and problem-solving abilities for students of Human Factors Engineering/Ergonomics major and to improve quality of their academic writing as well as performance of oral presentation in English.

    Qualification to participate

  • (1)  For domestic students, the student membership of Ergonomic Society of Taiwan (EST) and a recommendation (see Appendix 1) from their academic advisor are both required to participate the competition. For foreign students, the recommendation from their academic advisor is required. International students registered in universities in Taiwan are considered foreign students for this matter.
    (2)  Domestic and international students shall register in universities and maintain their effective status of being students, or has graduated for less than one year. Foreign students must provide a valid proof for their status of being students or a diploma to prove their graduation date (must be within one year).
    (3)  The content of the paper to compete must be completed during the participant’s study as a student and must be written by the participant in person.
    (4)  The participant must be the first author of the paper, but the advisor can be listed in authorship for her/his intelligent contribution.
    (5)  The full paper to compete can be written in Chinese or English, but an oral presentation must be made on the date of student paper competition.
    The enrollment fee for the competition is the registration fee and includes lunches. ONLY after received an enrolled confirmation letter, participants are required to complete your registration process and fee via the online system.

    Submission and Registration

  •         Participants in competition must register through EST 2018 on-line registration system and pay the participation fee to enroll. The full paper to compete must be submitted with other required documents through the on-line system in PDF format before the designated date. A complete package of documents includes the followings in order:
    (a) the recommendation from the advisor
    (b) the full paper to compete
    (c) the proof of student status/copy of diploma
    (d) the proof of EST membership (e.g. certificate or receipt of membership fees, apply only for domestic students)

    The complete package will be reviewed by the committee of student paper competition. The finalist will be announced on EST 2018 website and be informed by emails individually.

    Notes


  • Authors of selected conference papers will be invited to submit extended versions for publication in peer reviewed Special Issue of Journal of Industrial and Production Engineering (JIPE), which is abstracted/indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index, EI Compendex, INSPEC, TSSCI, and Scopus.

    Policies for Review

  •         EST will invite professors and experts in Human Factors Engineering/Ergonomics to form the review committee.The committee will decide the finalists and evaluate their oral presentation to select winners of student paper competition.
    The results of student paper competition will be determined based on both the quality of the paper and the performance of oral presentation.

    Certificates and Awards

  •          Certificates of participation in student paper competition will be issued to all finalists on the date of student paper competition. The review committee will decide the number of awardees to receive outstanding paper awards in EST 2018 based on the quality of the paper and the performance of oral presentation. They will be awarded on the closing ceremony.

    Plagiarism and Research Ethics

  •          Plagiarism are strictly prohibited in the competition. Participants are expected to follow research ethics and if any suspicious violation is reported, the committee shall retrieve all certificates or awards and call the violator(s) to account for all legal liability which may apply.

    Supplements

  •          The oral presentation of the student paper competition will be open to all conference attendants.
    The review committee may revise and supplement any matters not mentioned herein.
